The Centre Learning and Development Unit (Centre L&D Unit) is committed to the development of the Centre's member organisations through the development of individuals utilising training, consultancy and development processes. Underpinning the work of the unit are the following values:

  • All people engaged in working with clients have the right to access training which will enhance their capacity to assist clients to deal with the issues which have brought them into contact with their service.
  • Learning and development should reflect best practice standards and wisdom, based on evidence developed within the sector at the organisational, state, national and international level.
  • The Centre L&D Unit will deliver nationally recognised training where appropriate.
  • Achievements gained through training and development activities should be recognised in an appropriate manner and the recording of outcomes be in ways meaningful to participants.
  • Learning, development and consultancy work will develop a better understanding of the issues facing the sector and will be used to enhance the outcomes for the sector through publications and resource development.
  • The Centre L&D Unit will endeavour to balance the needs of stakeholders in the provision of training. Stakeholders include individual participants, their employing organisations, the Board and membership of the Centre, and funding providers (DHS, other state and national government departments).
  • The Centre L&D Unit will financially support the work of the Centre through an appropriate return on investment.
  • The Centre L&D Unit will work with the other bodies within the membership as well as creating external networks that support the work of the Unit.
  • Work of the Centre L&D Unit will not conflict with the ethical standards of the Centre.
