Introduction to the Learning and Development Unit

The L&D Unit within the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare delivers a range of learning and development activities including training programs, seminars, learning circles and workshops alongside consultancy, training brokerage, and advice to the child and family welfare sector and the Department of Human Services.

The Centre L&D Unit seeks to provide a central point of reference for Centre members and other stakeholders seeking information and learning and development services. The Centre conducts ongoing analysis of learning needs within the sector to ensure learning and development activities are current, relevant, and practical. The L&D Unit also has a strong advocacy role in relation to the learning and development and workforce development needs of the sector.

Mission Statement

To develop and deliver effective, high quality learning and development activites, consultancy and advice to the community sector, to enhance outcomes for clients through empowering services and workers to improve the quality of care provided.

Centre L&D Unit Goals and Objectives

Goals

  • High quality learning and development activities for the sector, leading to the development of a qualified workforce
  • Relevant learning and development which increases the quality of member services and has a positive effect on the lives of their clients
  • Advice and advocacy with relevant stakeholders that reflects the needs of the membership and sector
  • Discussion and debate that enhances understanding of the importance of learning and development in the sector
  • A single point of contact referral service for members seeking learning and development support, advice or programs 
  • A return on investment to the Secretariat in financial and non-financial terms which ensures the ongoing viability of the unit.
