Review of Out-of-Home Care - 2008

Sector's submission to the review process
During May 2008, the Minister for Community Services, Hon. Lisa Neville announced a review of the State's Out-of-Home Care system.  The Victorian Children's Council organised a roundtable of senior sector leaders to inform this review process.

The Centre coordinated a series of consultations with members, experts in the field and with young people through the CREATE Foundation, and presented a detailed submission outlining the sector's views on the current state of the system and the reforms that are required.  We understand that the Department of Human Services has presented a confidential report to the Minister and the Social Development Committee of the Victorian Government on the findings from the review.

Sector's campaign for investment in the OHC sector
Currently, a group of large Community Service Organisations providing OoHC services in collaboartion with the Centre is leading a campaign to influence the Government's 2009/10 budget process, and ensure that a realistic investment is made to strengthen the State's struggling OoHC system.
